Russia says its MiG-41 will fly in outer space
Russia is boasting that its next-generation fighter jet will be able to fly in space. But it’s still having trouble getting its latest offering off the ground.
Mikoyan Corporation has declared on Russian TV that it is working on a successor to its Cold War era MiG-31 “Foxhound” high speed, high-altitude fighter.
It’s been dubbed the PAK – DP, or MiG-41.
The aircraft will belong to a class of fighters known as interceptors – specifically designed to fly high and fast to counter incoming raids by bombers or cruise missiles.
It will have “the ability to operate in space, new weapons, new speeds, new operational range,” the corporation’s aircraft director, Ilya Tarasenko, claims.
